A family is taking a cross-country road trip when their trailer breaks down, leaving them stranded in the desert of New Mexico. There, they find themselves under attack by the savage "hill people," who were deformed by radiation during nuclear testing.
If you can get through the first 45 minutes without falling asleep, the last hour is pretty intense. After a slow start, the real "horror" part of the movie begins as the hill people move in for the kill while the family tries to figure out how to survive. The special effects weren't that great, but there were some pretty horrific and disturbing scenes. Of course, there was plenty of blood and dismemberment, but nothing that hasn't been done before. The ending left a little to be desired as did the fact they never really explained why the hill people had a thirst for innocent tourists. It could have been shortened quite a bit without losing anything because there was a lot of "dead" time that seemed to be just filler.

Not the greatest horror movie by far, but certainly one of the better ones from the past year or so. There were some intense and even somewhat scary parts, but again very predictable. Lots of swearing and heads flying off, burning, getting shot off, etc.
Again, it wasn't the worst. I'll give it a 2.5 of 5 just for not boring me to tears.
